Shopping
Maine Street in Brunswick starts an Bowdoin College.  Maine Street ends at the Dolphin
Bowdoin College along with excellent summer theater productions, art galleries and museums – including the Maine Maritime Museum – are a short 15-20 minute drive from Harpswell Inn. For the shopper and browser, our area offers a plenitude of antique shops, outlet stores and, of course, L.L. Bean located in nearby Freeport. Swimming, fishing, boat rental and boat excursions, golf, biking, a public boat ramp and tennis courts are available.

Things to do in Harpswell

Boating, Fishing, Tours Of Casco Bay and the Islands
H2Outfitters offers paddling classes based in Harpswell, just a short drive from the cottage.Take a cruise to seal watch or whale watch. Charter a sailboat for a half day or a full day, bareboat or captained. A great day trip is to rent your own motor boat and take a picnic to Eagle Island, tour Admiral Peary’s house and walk to the park behind the house.

Casco Bay Lines leaves from Cook’s Lobster House at 12:00 noon everyday, going around the islands in the bay, including Admiral Peary’s eagle island. There’s always time to watch the seals on this tour as well.

Kayaking
The Cottages are located on Middlebay, which is an ideal place for kayaking or canoeing. You may easily launch your kayak from the boat launch on Lookout Point Road. If you wish to rent a kayak or canoe, have a few lessons or take part in a guided tour These may be arranged through LL Bean, Seaspray Kayaking Rentals or H2Outfitters. Hiking, Biking, Trails & Outdoor Space
Cliff Trail
Devil’s Back Trail Area
Giant’s Stairs, Cross the cribstone bridge and go left onto Washington Avenue. Park where the road bends. You will see an old wooden sign, “Giant Steps.” Walk on the road towards water and go right on a well worn path to the “Stairs.”
Mitchel Field
Town Lands and Landings
Potts Point, a quiet peninsula at the end of Route 123. Park alongside the road as there is “foot traffic only” out to the point. Nice beach and spectacular view out to surrounding islands, including Eagle Island.

Bates-Morse Mountain Conservation
Take Route 1 south to Route 216. A two mile hike takes one through a quiet forest ending at a beautiful secret beach.

Bradbury Mt. State Park
Take the Freeport-Durham exit off 295, turn right at the end of the ramp, Follow signs to the park. Sculpted by a glacier, Bradbury Mountain provides 590 acres of shared use trails for horseback riders and mountain bikers as well as hiking trails.

Beaches
Reid State Park located 15 minutes from Bath. After crossing the Sagadahoc Bridge, take Route 127 to Park where on e will find 1.5 miles of sandy beach, picnic area, charcoal grills, snack bars and bathhouses.

Popham Beach State Park
Take Route 209 from Bath to Phippsburg and follow the signs to the park. The rolling Atlantic surf and sandy beach draws many swimmers, surfers and a shell collectors. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer months. The 529 acre park includes Fort Popham, established in 1607, which is also a great place to explore and appreciate the history of Popham.

Theaters
The Maine Music Theater, located in Brunswick on the Campus of Bowdoin College, presents Broadway musicals all summer. This season’s productions are Swing, Cats, Miss Saigon, and Mame. One may also attend many other musical recitals presented at the old historic First Parish Church and on the the Bowdoin campus, There are many other theaters offering entertainment, The Chocolate Church, The Children’s Theater and the 42nd Street Theater to name a few.

Museums
Bowdoin College museums include The Peary MacMillan Museum and the Bowdoin College Museum of Art. Museums from the well known Musical Wonder House, in Wiscasset, to the Owls Head Transportation Museum to many wonderful old houses abound.

Or you may just look forward to exploring the beaches that surround the cottage or just spending a few hours in the hammock reading a favorite book. In the evening many of our guests look forward to just sitting in one of the chairs on the lawn or deck, overlooking the ocean and watching one of Maine’s indescribably beautiful sunsets! It’s serene, it’s quiet and out here on the point, you’ll feel your tensions slipping away. One thing we promise, when you are here, you won’t want to leave.
